How to Fix your broken Sony Playstation 2/PS2 Game System

So do you fit into this catergory? You go and buy a PS2/Playstation 2 because its an awesome system and it play some cool games, such as Guitar Hero....etc. After spending about $130 you figure that a system like this isn't going to tear up considering Sony made it and the price you paid. Well, after about a month or two of playing it you can notice some glitches while you are playing games and all of the sudden it quits working.

So here are your options.....1) Go and get a new for $130 (if you're rich I suppose this is a good option) 2) Call Playstation support and stay on the phone for 2 hours talking to someone you can barely understand (this is good for someone who has time and patience) 3) Find a place that repairs PS2 and pay a lot of money getting it repaired and lose valuable playing time (again you need to be rich, have lots of time, and patience)

So if you are like every other human being on this earth.....your money is tight, your time is limited, and your patience are thin. This scenario I have just described is very similar to what happend to me and my PS2. I had these three options and all of them stunk! So one day while I was surfing ebay for a new/used PS2 (hoping I would get a good deal) I came across this auction. This auction was selling a guide on how to fix your PS2 guide yourself. At first, I was very skeptical because I figured that in order to fix a complicated machine like that you had to be some computer wiz. So I pondered on the auction and decided what the heck it is only $2.99, the guy has great feedback,and you get it instantly through instant download (technology is great). So I purchased it and figured well if it works I saved a lot of money and time.

And guess what... it did work! I guess you already figured that out though because I wouldn't be on here writing an article if it didn't. Seriously, though if your PS2 is not working don't waste money and time buying a new one or getting it repaired when you can do it yourself.

Xbox360 repair can be frustrating if you do not have the proper instructions or tools to guide you. Your Xbox360 is without doubt, one of the precious possessions that you are proud of, but it is not infallible.

An Xbox360 repair can be done by yourself and in the convenience of your own home. Make sure your system is clean and is getting proper airflow. To improve your system airflow, trying blowing compressed air into the perforations located on the back and sides of the system.

If that does not work and you are feeling more adventurous, you can disassemble your Xbox360 and further inspect it for damage. However, you should be aware that this form of Xbox360 repair would void your warranty.

Xbox360 Repair Quick Steps:

1. Unplug the power and AV cables and open your console. Do not forget to unplug the console...seriously.

2. Disconnect your DVD drive and remove it from the chassis.

3. Disconnect and remove your fan and fan shroud from the chassis.

4. Lift out your circuit board from the chassis.

5. Remove the x-clamps.

6. Remove your heat sinks, the studs from the heat sinks and clean the thermal paste off of the CPU, GPU and heat sinks.

7. Put thermal paste on CPU and GPU.

8. Put the x-clamp kit screws and washers (these replace the x-clamps and studs) into the circuit board.

9. Screw the heat sinks in place with the x-clamp kit screws.

10. Put the circuit board back into the chassis.

11. Connect the DVD drive and the fan. Do not snap the fan back in place yet. Place the fan face down (stickers down) with one fan over the CPU and one over the DVD drive. Reconnect the power and the AV cables. Turn on the Xbox 360 for 15 minutes and let it overheat. After 15 minutes turn the console off and let it cool down for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes turn the unit back on and you should be rewarded with green lights.

An Xbox360 repair should always be a "do it yourself project" since if you turn the Xbox 360 to Microsoft for repair your wait time would be 4-8 weeks.

So there I was, smack dab in the middle of an online game of Call Of Duty 4, when it happened. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was top of the board and it was all over in one quick moment. I couldn't even tell my buddies online what had happened. My Xbox 360 had frozen up. It happened to me, just like it happened to my brother shortly after he purchased his Xbox 360. I got the three red rings of death and it stopped my game playing dead in its tracks. I knew what was next and I wasn't looking forward to it.

If this happens to you, the first thing you need to try is to unplug all the cords from the unit and set aside to cool down for an hour. After the console has cooled down for about an hour, plug everything back in and power your Xbox 360 back up. If you are lucky, the red rings of doom will have gone away. But there is always the chance that your console will not come back up, so be prepared.

Make sure you have adequate ventilation around your console. If it is in your entertainment center, make sure that it is not sitting below other electronic devices that create heat.

If you system is truly dead, you have more than one option. Your first option, and the longest one, is contacting Microsoft for a shipping box, wait for the box, pack your console up, and send it back to Redmond for repairs. This method took my brother quite awhile and it was no fun waiting for his 360 to come back. After he received his console he began searching the web and discovered that he could have repaired the unit on his own. There are a number of guides that walk you through the process of fixing your Xbox 360 yourself, and they would have had him back up and running that night, not two months later.
